Custom Symbols

Use a custom symbol when FundStat cannot find the asset you want to book, but you still want to keep transactions for it inside the portfolio.

What It Is And How It Works

A custom symbol is your own private symbol definition. It can be used for private assets, broker-specific instruments, or regular exchange-traded assets that are simply missing from FundStat search.

Important: no live market price yet

Custom symbols do not download a market price. For now, FundStat keeps their valuation at the carried average buy price, so after buying the asset the current price stays equal to the stored average price.

  • If you buy 10 units at 100, the position is valued at 1000 and the close price stays at 100 until manual price points are added in the future.
  • That means custom symbols are useful for recording ownership and transaction history, but not yet for live market tracking.
  • Custom symbols can be assigned to supported transaction types, but not to stock split transactions.

How To Find And Use It Later

After creating the symbol on the Custom Symbols page, you do not pick it from the normal symbol search list.

How to find it later
  • Open Advanced Search when selecting an asset in a transaction or import fix flow.
  • Switch to the Custom symbols tab.
  • Pick the symbol from that tab. It is separated from normal market symbols on purpose.
Where it can be used
  • Manual transaction entry.
  • Editing existing transactions.
  • Fixing imported rows that could not be matched to a normal symbol.
