Annual summary

PIT-38 summary – a preliminary Polish capital gains tax calculation from your trades

FundStat collects the year’s sales, dividends, interest and fees, converts them to Polish zloty and shows the amounts numbered like the PIT-38 form fields. The calculation is a helper tool and doesn’t replace a tax adviser.

  • Fields as in PIT-38
  • FIFO costs
  • IKE and IKZE excluded

PIT-38 calculation in FundStat – what you can check

The annual summary answers what income or loss your investments brought in a given tax year and where those amounts came from.

Amounts to copy into PIT-38

You get amounts numbered like the PIT-38 form fields – revenue, costs, losses from previous years and tax on foreign income – plus income by country for PIT/ZG. If a Polish broker issued a PIT-8C, you enter only the remaining part.

FIFO costs including commissions

The cost of shares sold is calculated with FIFO, including buy and sell commissions, in the year of the sale. You see every lot separately – with the dates, prices and exchange rates used to convert it to Polish zloty.

Foreign dividends with the tax credit

For foreign dividends and interest we calculate 19% of the gross amount and subtract the tax withheld at source – up to the rate in the double taxation treaty. You see how much is left to pay for each country.

Losses from previous years

FundStat tracks losses from the last 5 years and shows how much you deduct in a given year and what’s left for later years. The calculation assumes you deducted the maximum amounts before.

Income or loss by year

The chart shows the income or loss for each tax year, and for the selected year you see the details: capital gains, foreign dividends and the total tax to pay.

Capital gains tax summary – what the calculation covers

The calculation covers taxable accounts and is done in Polish zloty. Exchange rates come from the import or are estimated, so they may differ from the NBP average rate from the last business day before the income or cost, which the law requires.

  • Stocks, ETFs and bondsCapital gains under art. 30b: sale revenue and FIFO costs including commissions.
  • Futures and CFDsSettled when the position is closed or expires, from the opening to the closing price, with commissions.
  • Foreign dividends and interestIncome under art. 30a, with the tax withheld abroad credited up to the treaty rate.
  • Polish dividends and interestSettled by the payer, so they’re shown only to check the tax withheld.
  • IKE and IKZE accountsExcluded automatically – gains on them are exempt from capital gains tax.
  • CryptocurrenciesNot calculated – they’re reported in a separate part of PIT-38 under different rules.
  • Currency conversion feesListed separately because the data doesn’t show which trades they relate to. You decide whether to include them.

How to prepare PIT-38 with FundStat – 3 steps

  1. 1

    Import all your accounts

Upload the transaction history from every broker, including foreign ones. Transaction import brings in sales, dividends, interest, fees and taxes withheld.

  2. 2

    Choose the tax year

Open the annual summary and pick a year. Check the lots sold, foreign dividends and any notes about sales skipped because of an incomplete purchase history.

  3. 3

Compare with PIT-8C and copy the amounts

Compare the amounts with the PIT-8C information from your brokers and copy them into PIT-38 and PIT/ZG. You’ll also find the result of each sale in closed positions.
