Closed positions

Stock sale profit – the result of every closed position

See how much you really made on every sale. FundStat calculates the realised result with FIFO, adds dividends and fees, and shows the currency effect separately from the price change.

Stock sale profit in FundStat – what you can check

Closed and partially closed positions answer how much you made on each sale and where that result came from.

The realised result, broken down

The realised result is the sum of the trading result, dividends and other income, and fees. The trading result – sale proceeds minus the cost basis of the units sold – is further split into the price change and the currency effect.

The FIFO method, step by step

When you sell, the oldest purchases are settled first. In the transaction list you hover a sale’s result to see which purchases make up its FIFO cost basis.

Partial closes

Sold only part of a position? You see the realised result on the units you sold, the unrealised gain on the rest and the total result of the whole position.

Return, MWR and holding period

For a fully closed position you see the simple return, and for every position the MWR, calculated with XIRR from the dates of buys, sells and dividends. The holding period shows how long you held the position.

Filters and summary

Search by instrument and filter by the date of the last close, for example to see only the sales from a given year. The Total row adds up the positions shown and calculates their combined return.

Closed positions for every asset type

The same view covers stocks, ETFs, futures and Polish treasury bonds. Each asset type is calculated by its own rules, and positions in the same instrument across several accounts are shown together.

  • Stocks and ETFsFIFO cost basis, dividends assigned to the position and average prices adjusted for splits.
  • Foreign assetsProceeds and cost converted at the broker’s imported rate or the last rate before the trade date.
  • FuturesResult from daily settlements, return on initial margin and rolled series joined into one position.
  • Polish treasury bondsSeries grouped by type, such as COI or EDO, with the result and return calculated on their combined cost.
  • Corporate actionsConversions, share allocations such as spin-offs, and withdrawals move shares at their cost basis, with no effect on the result.
  • Several accountsA position in the same instrument is shown combined, and expanding it shows the result on each account.

How to check your stock sale profit – 3 steps

  1. 1

    Import your transaction history

Upload a file from your broker. Transaction import brings in the buys, sells, dividends and fees that FundStat builds each position’s result from.

  2. 2

    Open closed positions

Search for an instrument or set a range for the last close date. Expand a position to see its accounts, transactions and settlements.

  3. 3

    Check the result components

Compare the price change with the currency effect and check the return. You’ll find results grouped by year in the annual summary.
